The number of Americans applying for initial unemployment benefits crept down to 1.48 million in the week ending June 20, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday, underlining the view that the labor market faces a prolonged and difficult recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.The number was higher than forecasts for 1.30 million and was down only slightly from 1.54 million in the prior week.

States across the US continue to see a resurgence after Phase 2 of Reopening. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 776 points, or -2.97%, to 25,379, the S&P 500 declined -2.81% and the Nasdaq slid -2.51%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq closed at a record high on Tuesday.
